Kanyancu Visitor Centre
The Visitor Centre is located 35 km south of Fort-Portal town, 320 km west of Kampala. Directly off the Fort-Portal – Kamwenge Road, the Kanyanchu Tourist Camp in KNP is easily accessible and just 35 km from Fort-Portal town. It is elevated to provide beautiful views of the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains.

During the rainy season a 4×4 vehicle is advisable for travel from Kampala to Fort-Portal via Mubende, and from Fort-Portal to Kanyanchu.

Public Transport
Public transport from Kampala to Fort-Portal depart daily from 6am until about 4pm. Public transport from Fort-Portal to Kamwenge via Kanyanchu, Nkingo and Bigodi is available from the Kamwenge stage (next to the Fort-Portal market) between 8am and 5pm. Private hire vehicles can be arranged at the Taxi Park in Fort Portal.

Accommodation

Camping facilities are available including private camp site areas, a general campsite area and private tented accommodation. Bandas (under construction near completion) with double beds and shower will also be available. All camp sites provide a cooking area and fuel wood. Bring food & cooking utensils or book meals through the canteen. Nights can be cool.

Meals

Food can be arranged with the Bigodi Women’s Group operating a canteen on site providing the
following:

  • · Meals for lunch and dinner if booked in advance.
  • · Drinks including sodas, bottled water, beers, tea & coffee.
  • · Handicrafts and T-shirts.

The canteen operates daily. Booking for food is encouraged.
