Lake Nkuruba is a spectacular Lake found at approximately 25 kilometers south of the breathtaking Town of Fort portal within western Uganda. Nestled at the heart of the breathtaking scenery of the Rwenzori Mountains and Kibale Forest National Park, this magnificent Crater Lake and the surrounding Nature Reserve are a habitat to abundant wildlife and bird species and have surprisingly not been affected by deforestation.
This Reserve and its verdant forest is a home to several bird species such as the black and white casqued hornbills and Great blue Turaco thus making the site a true birder’s Paradise. Part of the proceeds from this Ecotourism Project goes into supporting Nature conservation and improving the livelihoods of the local community members.
Lake Nkuruba Nature Reserve is a community project, with revenue gained from you, the traveller. We offer free education regarding health, literacy and conservation issues for the community.
Nkuruba is the only crater lake remaining unspoiled by the widespread deforestation in Uganda, therefore our future depends on your support and enjoyment of this area. The forests have numerous Black and White Colobus and Red Colobus monkeys, a vast amount of bird life and if you’re lucky our hippo may visit you.
