Description
Kamugha Guest House is in Kazingo Trading Center about 12.5 km from Fort Portal. It is at an elevation of 1675m (5494ft) on the foothills of Mount Rwenzori National Park which is known for its spectacular mountain landscape and particularly for its unique and fascinating plant species. The Guest House caters for tourists interested in native communities, culture and customs both of the Batoro of the lowlands and the Bakonzho of the mountains.
Visitors who are unable to climb the mountains can see and learn about them here at the Guest House. Guided walks through the homesteads of the local communities and scenic areas are also available to give guests more in depth knowledge of local environment and culture.
What we offer
- Accommodation: two beds available or floor space for your own bedding, camping in a fenced compound, warm water, and laundry

- Guided walks: Scenic views (3-4 hrs), Communities/households (4-6 hours depending on interests), Bird watching (grassland nearby, forest, 45 min walk) Waterfall trail (full day trip, includes bird watching in forest, medicinal plants can be seen, moderate-difficult hiking)

- Amabere caves and Saka Lake
- Cultural experiences: Traditional dancers (Batoro and Bakonzho)–at the Guest House in the evening Traditional witchdoctor–at his home during the day (30-40 min walk there)

Arrangements are also available for visitors who wish to stay in Fort Portal. Let us know two days in advance.
The arrival time is 8:30 am. Booking is done at Kabarole Tours and Safaris in Fort Portal.
At Kazingo, information is obtained from Rwenzori Mountains National Park Office (Kazingo outpost) or from the Guest House.
Helpful hints
- Transport from Fort Portal: take a matatu on the Bundibugyo road to Bukuku for about $1.00 (US) then walk 3.5 km to Kazingo or take a matatu direct to Kazingo for another $dollar
- KAMUGHA GUEST HOUSE is approximately 5 min walk from the trading center. Ask for information in RMNP outpost office in the trading center. Bring your sleeping bag and mat, warm clothes and other camping gear if you wish to camp. The Guest House is very close to the road and space for car parking is available.
